Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT)

What is QILT?

QILT is an initiative funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training to manage a suite of surveys representing the student life cycle from commencement to employment. The Social Research Centre (SRC) has the government contract to administer the surveys in conjunction with institutions and publish the results on the ComparEd website.

The Market and Institutional Research team in the Office of Strategy and Planning coordinates the administration and reporting on the QILT suite of surveys on behalf of Curtin University. These surveys are:

  • The Student Experience Survey (SES) which gathers feedback from current students about their satisfaction with the below aspects of their student experience
    - Overall quality of educational experience
    - Teaching quality
    - Learner engagement
    - Learning resources
    - Student support
    - Skills Development

  • The Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) which gathers short term (4 months after course completion) employment outcomes from graduates including employment, full-time employment, further study status and median salary

  • The Graduate Outcomes Survey Longitudinal (GOS-L) which gathers medium term (3 years after course completion) employment outcomes from graduates including employment, full-time employment, further study status and median salary

  • The Employer Satisfaction Survey (ESS) which gathers perceptions of Curtin courses from employers of our graduates

Results for the above surveys are available via the BI Dashboards (click here for instructions on gaining access to the BI and downloading survey results from the BI) and the MIR Downloadable Reports website. Reports from the Downloadable Reports website are generally those at Curtin overall and Faculty level while results via the BI are at high and more detailed levels (e.g. School, course, major). Results for the above surveys are also available via the ComparEd website which contains searchable information by 21 Study Areas to help prospective students make study related decisions. More specifically, comparisons can be made against institutions (up to six).

QILT news from November 2021

From November 2021, QILT has commenced reporting on graduate salaries via an ATO data extraction rather than via graduate salaries gathered via the Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS). Please note that the ATO salary data is for all graduates regardless of whether they work part-time or full-time.

Note: Trend data is not shown on the ComparEd website. The results from up to 3 years are pooled into a single reported figure to maximise cell sizes. As results are pooled, website results are not comparable to national reports (which report singular years).
